Raising Futures Kenya Overview

Raising Futures Kenya is a registered NGO that works with young people and their communities through our Seed of Hope Programme. We support young people to create bright rewarding futures through technical training, Entrepreneurship and IT training, mental health wellbeing, reproductive health support and general life skills, leading to empowered young people ready to start their small businesses or join meaningful salaried employment.

We believe that every young person has the potential to acquire skills and be empowered to break the cycle of poverty and empower their communities, and we endeavour to produce holistically empowered young people at Seed of Hope.

We work in three counties where the Seed of Hope training and Business Centres are located and we are looking for dynamic, experienced, professionals to spearhead the training of Entrepreneurship and IT, and Hair and Beauty therapy courses at the centres.

The details for the positions and the job locations are as below:

Entrepreneurship and IT Trainer/Teacher – 2 Positions (Nairobi and Murang’a)

Job Purpose

To carry out the professional duties of a teacher as required and in accordance with the raising Futures policies under the direction of the Seed of Hope programme Manager.

To be an effective professional who demonstrates thorough curriculum knowledge, can teach and assess effectively, take responsibility for professional development and has students who achieve well. The person should also contribute to the high standard of teaching and learning and raising standards of achievement.

To make a sufficient contribution to the vision and direction of Seed of Hope centres where innovation and inspirational learning of the young people is the core.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Ensure timely implementation of project activities as per the approved activity plan and with support from the Programme Manager
  • Training and empowerment for the young people at seed of hope
  • Lead in identification and enrolment of students in the training centre.
  • Maintain an effective communication system and ensure information flow between project and relevant parties.
  • Writing project internal reports.
  • Manage and regularly check project assets to ensure their rightful purpose of use, maintain data management and filing systems for the project.
  • Provide support for other activities as reasonably requested by supervisors and in line with organizational priorities.
  • Assist in the development of the centre’s M&E framework.
  • Tracking and communicating student’s advancement throughout the course.
  • Ensure effective monitoring of activities to achieve project outcomes.
  • Lead in documentation of case stories and communication and management of social media platform
  • To ensure the success of Income Generating Activities at the centre.
  • Support graduates to set up businesses and follow up on their success.
  • Manage the implementation of graduate loans and ensure consistent repayment by the graduates 

Desired Skills and Experience

  1. Holder of a bachelor’s degree or diploma in Business or Community Development field with extensive knowledge in IT and Entrepreneurship training. 
  2. A result driven individual with at least two years’ experience in community work and training, and excellent reporting skills, Monitoring and Evaluation, communication, coaching and mentoring skills.
  3. Any other craft or technical skill will be an added advantage.

Should be able to work in Nairobi County, Dagoretti South Sub County, Ngando Ward or Murang’a County, Kandara Sub County In Kariti, Kagundu-ini Ward.

Hair and Beauty Therapy Trainer/Teacher – 2 Positions (Kitui and Murang’a)

Job Purpose

To carry out the professional duties of a teacher as required   and in accordance with the Raising Futures Kenya policies under the direction of the Seed of Hope programme Manager.

To be an effective professional who demonstrates thorough curriculum Knowledge, can teach and assess effectively, take responsibility for professional development and has students who achieve well. Contribute to the high standard of teaching and learning and raising standards of achievement.

To make a sufficient contribution to the vision and direction of Seed of Hope centres where innovation and inspirational learning of the young people is the core.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Develop and prepare appropriate training materials for effective and efficient delivery of skills
  • Conduct training as per the curriculum
  • Conduct continuous assessment to the learners and ensure they clearly understand the skills
  • Manage curriculum implementation and evaluation and report effectively
  • Lead in identification and enrolment of students in your course area.
  • Participate in the training curriculum development that suits the market needs
  • Responsible for proper management of training tools and equipments for the course
  • Ensure proper utilization of all project training tools and materials
  • Prepare the learners to face life positively and with self-confidence and independently 
  • To ensure the success of Income Generating Activities at the centre.
  • Ensure follow up and success of graduate businesses 

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Diploma holder in Hairdressing and beauty therapy from a reputable training institution
  • Excellent interpersonal skills,
  • At least 2-3 years relevant experience in hands on training on Hairdressing and beauty therapy
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must be organized, diligent, mature and honest.
  • Counselling skills will be an added advantage

Should be able to work in Kitui County, Kitui East South Sub County, Nzambani Ward, Kangweni or Murang’a County, Kandara Sub County In Kariti, Kagundu-ini Ward.
