Recruiting a Dressmaking Fashion and Fabric Design Trainer in Kitui

Raising Futures Kenya is recruiting for a dynamic, results oriented, creative person to spearhead the Dressmaking, Fashion and Fabric Design Training and Learning role for the Seed of Hope Programme in Kitui.

Seed of Hope works with and for young people (14-25year olds) and their communities to create bright rewarding futures through offering free technical training, entrepreneurship and IT training, mental health and reproductive health support and general life skills to produce empowered young people ready to start their small businesses, or join salaried employment.

We believe that every young person has the potential to acquire skills and be equipped to break the cycle of poverty and empower their communities. We provide a package of holistic support to remove any barriers young people would face in accessing training, enabling young people at Seed of Hope to fulfil their potential.

We work in three counties where the Seed of Hope training and business centres are located and we are looking for a dynamic, experienced, professional to spearhead the training of Dressmaking Fashion and Fabric Design course at the Kitui Centre.

Job Title: Dressmaking Fashion and Fabric Design Trainer

Job Purpose

To carry out the professional duties of a senior teacher as required and in accordance with Raising Futures Kenya policies under the direction of the Seed of Hope programme Manager.

To be an effective professional who demonstrates thorough curriculum knowledge, can teach and assess effectively, take responsibility for professional development and has students who achieve well. Contribute to the high standard of teaching and learning and raising standards of achievement.

To make sufficient contribution to the vision and direction of Seed of Hope centres where innovation and inspirational learning of the young people is the core.

To be a positive role model and ambassador of Seed of Hope in the local community.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Develop and prepare appropriate training materials for effective and efficient delivery of skills.
  • Conduct training as per the approved curriculum, schemes of work and lesson plans.
  • Conduct continuous assessment to the learners and ensure they clearly understand the skills
  • Lead in identification and enrolment of students in your course area and support the entire centre in student enrolment.
  • Participate in the training curriculum development that suits the market needs with periodic reviews.
  • Responsible for proper management, inventory and utilisation of training tools and equipments for the course.
  • Tracking and communicating students’ advancement throughout the course.
  • Ensure effective monitoring of activities to achieve project outcomes.
  • Prepare the learners to face life positively and with self-confidence and independence. 
  • Support students with counselling and mental health wellbeing.
  • Manage curriculum implementation and evaluation and report effectively.
  • To ensure the success of Income Generating Activities at the centre.
  • Ensure follow up and success of graduates and their businesses.
  • Provide support for other activities as reasonably requested by supervisors and in line with organisational priorities.
  • Adhering to the Code of Conduct and all policies and procedures of the organisation, and ensuring students and the community are aware the Safeguarding Policy and Procedure and Whistleblowing Policy.

Desired Skills and Experience

  1. Degree or diploma in Technical Education in the following fields: 
  • Clothing and textile technology, pattern making and illustration, design concept, clothing construction ornamentation,
  • Textile science, garment industry or equivalent qualification from a reputable training institution
  1. Excellent interpersonal skills
  2. At least 2-3 years relevant experience in hands on training textile technology
  3. Must be computer literate
  4. Must be organised, diligent, mature and honest
  5. Be willing to work in Kitui County, Kitui East Subcounty, Nzambani Ward
  6. Counselling skills and a background working with young people will be added advantages
